Mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of. Mental health is behavior and emotional expression we use every day, so it might surprise you that the term ‘Mental health’ is frequently misunderstood.

The main thing about mental illness is how people think, feel, and behave.  It is a condition that affects a person’s feelings, behavior thinking, or mood. It is a medical problem, just similar to heart disease or diabetes. It includes our emotional, psychological, and problem functioning in social, work, or family activities.

Mental health is very important at every stage of life from childhood to adulthood. Good mental health leads to a relatively happy and healthy life.

Mental illness is a condition that deeply impacts day today life by changing a person’s thinking, feeling, behavior, or mood.

The first thing you must know is that you are not alone If you think you might have a mental illness. This is very common in today’s heavy stressful life. Many people have had or know someone who has faced that severe illness. It is far more common than you think, mainly because people don’t like to, or are scared to, talk about them.




Causes Of Mental Disorders

In general mental health, disorder is caused by a variety of genetic and environmental factors. There is no single cause for mental illness. Numbers of factors can contribute to the risk of mental illness.

  • Your inherited traits, genes, and family history.
  • Your life experiences, such as trauma, stress, or history of abuse, especially if they happen in childhood.
  • Biological factors, such as genes or chemical imbalances in the brain.
  • A traumatic brain injury.
  • Environmental exposure before birth to viruses or toxic chemicals while pregnant.
  • Use of excess Alcohol or recreational drugs.
  • Having a serious medical condition like cancer.
  • Having few friends, and feeling lonely or isolated. 
  • Mental illness is caused by character flaws. They have nothing to do with being lazy or wealthy.

Warning Signs Of Mental Illness

Most of the time family, friends, teachers, or individuals begin to recognize small changes that “something is not quite right” about their feelings behavior.

Early intervention can help reduce the severity of illness before illness appears in its full-blown form. If we early recognize the symptoms it is even possible to delay or prevent a major mental illness altogether.

Sleep or appetite changes
Eating or sleeping too much or too little.

Mood changes
Swiftly or dramatic shifts in emotions or depression, feeling unusually confused, forgetful, on edge, angry, upset, worried, or scared.

Withdrawl
Recent social withdrawal and loss of interest in activities previously enjoyed, pulling away from people and usual activities, yelling, or fighting with family and friends.

Drop-in functioning
An unusual drop in functioning at school, at work, or social activities, such as quitting sports, inability to perform daily tasks like taking care of your kids.

Problems thinking
Problem with concentration, memory, or logical thought and speech that is hard to explain, feeling helpless or hopeless, having persistent thoughts and memories you can’t get out of your head.

Increased sensitivity
Heightened sensitivity to sights, sounds, smells, or touch, avoidance of over-stimulating situations, feeling numb, or like nothing matters.

Apathy
Loss of desire or initiative to participate in any activity.

Feeling disconnected

Illogical thinking
Unusual or exaggerated beliefs about personal powers to understand meanings or influence events; illogical or magical thinking, hearing voices or believing things that are not true, thinking of harming yourself or others.

Nervousness
Fear or suspiciousness of others or a strong nervous feeling, having low or no energy.

Unusual behavior

Odd, uncharacteristic, peculiar behavior, smoking, drinking or using drugs more than usual

Having unexplained aches and pains.

Experiencing delusions.

 It’s important to remember that mental health is very complex but it is possible to be diagnosed. While feeling well in many aspects of life. The way we think, we feel, and develop a relationship. Ultimately, mental health is about being emotionally, cognitively, and socially healthy.
